A graduate of Cornell University, Shaffer has been a social entrepreneur for many years, growing an education-related business, a software company, a sporting goods manufacturer and BALLE (Business Alliance for Local Living Economies). He currently serves on the board of B Lab, and lives in Berkeley, California.
